NFL Week 2 Power Rankings: Are the Chiefs Back on Top?

1: Seattle Seahawks (Record: 2-0)

The Seahawks look like they haven't missed a step from last year. Although they lost their starting quarterback, Sam Darnold, Drew Lock has stepped in beautifully and has led this team to a 2-0 record. Jaxon Smith-Njigba is still the best receiver in the world, and the defense is lights out. They have only allowed two touchdowns, pulled in four interceptions, and given up just 179 rushing yards on 3.73 yards per carry. Until someone beats the champ, they are the champs.

2: Kansas City Chiefs (Record: 2-0)

Was there any doubt about Patrick Mahomes? The Chiefs dominated the Broncos in Week 1 with a 31-10 victory, and won a tough overtime battle against the Colts, 33-30. I will always trust the Chiefs' defense with Steve Spagnuolo as the anchor, and the offense looks like the old Chiefs again. Mahomes looks healthy and seems to have his deep-ball back, an important piece of the Chiefs' offense that was missing last year. Lastly, adding last year's Super Bowl MVP, Kenneth Walker III, was the best move this offseason. He recorded 191 and 178 yards from scrimmage in his first two games. The way the Chiefs are playing, they could easily be the most dangerous team in the NFL right now.

3: San Francisco 49ers (Record: 2-0)

The 49ers have started this year dominating their opponents with two blowout wins. They looked especially impressive in their week-one victory over the Super Bowl favorite Rams. The Niners' defense, led by Raheem Morris, has been on lockdown. They have only allowed two touchdowns, rank 3rd in opponent points per game at 10.0 and 4th in redzone defense, allowing touchdowns on just 20% of opponents' trips. The offense, however, has been the real highlight. Brock Purdy is playing like a top-5 quarterback right now. He has 6 total touchdowns and one interception, leads the NFL in total QBR, and finished his last game with more touchdowns than incompletions. If the Niners' offense continues to click with the addition of Mike Evans, this team will make a lot of noise this season.

4: Buffalo Bills (Record: 2-0)

The Bills may be a little low in these rankings. Josh Allen is the clear MVP favorite right now with 9 total touchdowns and 0 turnovers. The defense did its job against the Lions too, even if the scoreboard suggests otherwise. The Bills jumped out to a 21-0 lead, holding the Lions to 10 yards of total offense at that point, essentially putting the game away early. The Bills defense ranks 4th in total sacks with 7.0 and came up with a huge fumble recovery to secure the win against the Texans. Last year's rushing leader, James Cook, ranks 4th in rushing yards this year and continues to provide the offensive help Allen needs. DJ Moore and Dalton Kincaid have also established themselves as Allen's go-to targets and look to have huge seasons. The Bills have been impressive, but the teams above them pose a bigger threat and have consistently made deep playoff runs.

5: Cincinnati Bengals (Record: 2-0)

Joe Burrow and the Bengals are the team that has impressed me the most. For years, their defense has been a joke in the NFL and was the biggest reason they haven't made the playoffs in recent seasons. So far, defensive coordinator Al Golden has his unit playing unbelievable football. They dominated the Texans, allowing 0 touchdowns, and against the Buccaneers, recovered four fumbles in their win. The defense ranks 1st in total sacks with 8.0, 8th in opponent points per game at 16.5, and 1st in turnover differential at +3. The offense hasn't been as impressive as it has been in past years. Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins have yet to record a 100-yard receiving performance, while Burrow hasn't had an elite passing game yet. Even if the defense eventually has an off game, this offense should continue to improve and work its way back toward the top of the league.
